The colonial charters affected America’s basic outline of governmental structure and power distribution beginning with the East India Company. The charter created from the East India Company began the democratic society that we have today. It gave power and responsibilities to different people. Governors, councilmen, and representatives were all created to equally represent the state as whole. The representatives were elected like they are in today’s society.
Kaycee has it generally correct. Though the East India Company had "no direct relations in America," it provided a general framework that other charters followed, including that for the Carolina Colony. The first major point is that there was a WRITTEN DOCUMENT laying out governing responsibilies. Then charters divided powers up roughly into branches with an executive, a legislative (which had closer ties to the average people) and a judiciary.
The inspiration for government structure was from colonial charters (as mentioned by Kaycee Doying). Giving the inhabitants of the colonies responsibilities to rule the colonies and maintain order. However, the colonies had to use only parts of these charters to fit to there local problems. The reason for this was because in the royal charters the Lord Proprietors was allowed to create code of laws for the colony. However, Lord Proprietors lived in England and the colony was left to rule themselves. Many of the rulings were ignored or enforced casuing tensions between the colonies and England. We can say the charters made for the colonies made had influence government structure, but the end result was the colonies interpretation.
